| Bikers Cathedral City Charity Rideout | 21st/22nd June 2008 | |
President's LetterDear Fellow Bikers, Welcome to our Rideout. It has been a long-term ambition of mine to be involved in supporting our chosen Charities by riding a motorbike. I am proud to receive the support of Seven times Motorcycle World Champion John Surtees who has kindly agreed to present the Awards and endorse our Rideout. Over the years Members of The Rotary Club of Crowborough have been involved with international, national & local charities. We have provided water resources and emergency goods to disaster areas (tsunami, earthquake etc), we have through Rotary Foundation provided bicycles for a township in Africa and we have helped with the provision of equipment for a specialist school for autistic children. We have also contributed to the Polio Plus campaign in association with the World Health Organisation to rid the world of polio. In 2008 we are organising this Rideout to raise funds in aid of The Royal Marsden Cancer Research Campaign and Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital together with Rotary Charities. 100% of the sponsorship monies received will go to the named charities. Royal Marsden is planning to expand its medical day unit to see more Patients. It will install state-of-the-art reclining treatment chairs with in chair entertainment (some patients can spend up to eight hours in a chair having their treatment, so comfort is vital). Funds generated from the Rideout will assist in achieving this goal. I have been a keen biker for many years and ride out most Sunday mornings on my Honda CBR 600 with a group of friends including some of my fellow Rotarians who ride Ducatis, Triumphs etc. The odd track day outing is also enjoyed. I hope you and your fellow bikers will join us in this worthwhile event by entering now and putting the date in your diaries. I look forward to meeting you during your visit to one of the checkpoints which I will be manning with my wife Trish. Keep the rubber in touch with the tarmac! Regards
